Paikallista herkkuruokaa - Local junk food

Parvekeruokakausi on aloitettu!

We started our outdoor eating season! Few weeks ago when our daughter had her birthday, we fetched the dinner from a local fast food kiosk. That was deep-fried chicken, French fries & co. We had two cans of coke and one Angry Birds limonade can, too, so a little family dinner was easily organized. Can you believe though, that for our surprise the AB soft drink had by accident got out of date some weeks before and the flavor had already changed!?! Who could imagine that such a sugar+added preservatives-mix could ever go out of date so soon??? It turned out to be practically undrinkable, but luckily the cokes were fresh as ever... Bit of irony there, as nobody really wants to know what's IN the coke... ;-)

By the way, many locals buy weekly from those fast food kiosks French fries and all kinds of meat things that are deep-fried. On top of that many also make deep-fried things at least once a week at home... We are kind of strangers on that account, because we don't even own a machine for it. Moving here years ago, we decided that when we fancy fries & co. we can easily get them from the kiosk. You can namely buy a huge box of fries with just couple of euros, but avoid the greasy odor in the house and all the mess with the used oil... Besides, then the temptation to eat that stuff is also less frequent, because to be honest, deep-frying makes almost anything really tasty. Luckily though, I tend to get bit sick every time I eat this kind of fast food, so it keeps me mostly away from queuing at the local kiosk. There are, however differences between the "fritkots" as they call those kiosks here. Food can be much fresher in flavor in some places than it is in others, and every local person can tell you which kiosk is the best. It's one of those things you stay loyal to once you have found your favorite.
