Keittiön hyllyn takaseinän tapetista tuli lopulta ihan ammattilaistasoinen projekti, joten DIY-ohjeistus jää nyt antamatta. Onneksi en aloittanut tapetoimaan sitä itse, vaan odotin maltillisesti, että isäni tulee auttamaan. Homma oli aika hankala, koska tapetilla on tapana venyä ja kuitenkin sekä kuvio, että reunat pitäisi saada täysin kohdalleen. Isän ehdottama takaseinän irroitus olisi ollut tietysti paras vaihtoehto, mutta sen miljoona naulaa, mitä hyllyn tekijä oli siihen upottanut tuntui hiukan turhan työläältä ja pelkäsin, että jos haluan joskus tapetin poistaa, niin en ikinä saa takalevyä omin nokkineni uudestaan irti. (Se oli tietysti täysi virhearviointi minulta. Huomasin aika nopeasti, että olisi kannattanut vaan seurata isän ohjeita.) Toiveestani kuitenkin päädyimme liimaamaan tapetin puuliimalla suoraan hyllyn takaseinään. Kuvion kohdistukset ja reunojen leikkaamiset vaativatkin sitten useamman tunnin työn, mutta isäni on tunnetusti kärsivällinen ja tarkkaakin tarkempi, joten lopputulos on oikein hyvä. Raivailin hiukan keittiötä ja ladoin hyllyille enimmäkseen vanhoja sinivalkoisia ja valkoisia astioita. Nyt on taas hiukan vaihtelua. Hassua, miten paljon tumma takaseina pimensi koko keittiötä. What was meant to be a nice little DIY project turned out to be quite a professional job... No DIY instructions this time, sorry! When I saw how complicated wallpapering the old shelf was, I was quite happy I had patiently waited for my father to come to help me with it. One problem was that the wallpaper tends to stretch when clue is spread on it. Another one related to the first problem was to get the print match exactly. The best option my father said would have been to take the back wall off, wallpaper it and attach it again. It seemed to me like a lot of work counting the crazy amount of nails the builder of the shelf had once used. My father was right of course in thinking about professional techiques to complete such a project efficiently and guaranteed perfectly, but I insisted that it would be easier not to (which of course was a mistake, but I'm always looking for shortcuts in crafts, which the professionals like my dad obviously would never do). Anyway, my dad being so patient and careful as he is managed to clue the wallpaper well. In that I was right that I knew he could accomplish the task with a shortcut, too, but it took us a couple of hours more and that did make me feel bit sorry. However, the end result is wonderful, thanks Dad!
I was tidying up in the kitchen and loaded the shelves with some white and mostly old blue-and-white dishes. It's funny to see how much the black wall of the shelf darkened the entire kitchen which is now totally light and cozy.
